hot on the heels of “the reason”, released earlier in april, mimi music continues to impress with the death no more ep from label head komplexx. he teams up with former booker of extrema and present-day photographer peter van hal. the original version of “death no more” defies genre boundaries with ease. fusing old school progressive stylings, well placed percussion, an epic choral vocal with a catchy main hook and a rubbery bass line, komplexx has unleashed a summer anthem for the discerning dance-floor worldwide. the remix comes from well respected german artist marcus sur. a producer in his own right, signed to noir music, trapez, highgrade, four:twenty records and many more, sur created a darker more hypnotic journey focusing on the percussive aspects of the original. and komplexx’s v.i.p. mixx heads off into housey techno waters from the start. deeper, more percussive and driving, the v.i.p. mixx keeps the central melody intact while creating a darker feel. this has mass crossover appeal written all over it.

stasis005 is another vinyl issue of elysia crampton s digital work, following stasis003, the bound adam 2011 7inch. it is the first pressing of the light that you gave me to see you, originally released under the name e+e. the arrangements were conceived between 2011 and 2012, and the l.p. was finally assembled in 2013, while the artist was homeless in los angeles, california. this edition also includes a previously unreleased bonus track, troll song, which originates from the same period. as with bound adam 2011, the art is by felix lee, and the master is by brandon hocura.

sound carrier volume 8it’s back to the cosmos with the latest instalment in chris carrier’s always-on-point series, sound carrier. the label is a home for the prolific paris artist’s techno stylings, and no.8 in the series focuses on a galactical fight theme – taking us from terra firma up into the skies and beyond. the first track, ‘alien blaster pistol’, couldn’t be more self-explanatory. mysterious keys parade over an ominous bassline while the beats keep things moving neatly. gentle chimes and bleeps are added, initiating a dialogue between the various high frequencies located in the top end. next up is ‘mahem (magneto hydrodynamic explosive munition)’, which steps into familiar sound carrier territory, that is… slightly unhinged. rolling along at a steady pace, the tune is rough, yet light with shimmering effects and charming wobbly chunks of bass. on side b chris gets gnarly on us with ‘earth invasion’. it’s the beginning of the end, so of course the music has to match that frightening prospect. gruff beats and stomping bass collide with cymbals, crunchy snares and mutant acid licks to create a beast. finally, ‘haumea brigade’ takes us into the twilight zone again, whirring fx float above hard-hitting beats and a mean b-line. eerie pads help to maintain a chilling tone throughout. deadly, the soundtrack to the end of days here on earth... prepare to evacuate!

london based punk duo black volume are not easy to classify. their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. their b series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result. black rubber is james brown wearing black leather at 40ºc (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia. negative return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage with the future we enter a romantic dystopia. sensual and passionate but equally crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines. streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.

the enduring search seemed to lead further away from the nooks and crannies of the land, hiding in the remote silence and depth of the undiscovered. novelty always awaits around the corner. proving his quality time and time again, we continue with the next chapter in the love over entropy saga on something happening somewhere.

answer code request picks up where he left off with his album (code, ostgut ton, 2014) and 12“ (calm down, mdr, 2015): with the neume ep the berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. the eponymous track “neume” starts off on a with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. “meta” on b1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while acr slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track’s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track’s sustained, smooth outro. “vis” on b2 is the ep’s most protruding track: classic uk garage shuffle rhythms and amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. answer code request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics.

british producer reformed society is on a steadfast mission to dig deeper by going against the grain, standing up to the status quo and daring to do something different. a self proclaimed goal that is easily noticeable in his first release for “made of concrete”, wherein he reveals three original tracks and a remix by gathaspar, one of the label’s regulars. kicking things off with “high tension”, a high strung stripped back piece with an aerial feel, the artist builds up the entire mood of the ep from scratch. a clear-cut, steady groove whose versatility makes it relevant as an intro, outro or interlude. gathaspar’s rausch remix is a sub-bassy reinterpretation of the initial piece, filled with contorted whirs and whizzes that give the track a sub- aquatic feel. on “volgende halte”, the opening vocal sample shifts from a seemingly conventional soundbite to a recurringly haunting snippet that remains etched into the listener’s brain. rhythmical rolling pads galvanize the groove, making for an eerie yet relaxed overall vibe. movement inducing from the get go, final offering “orbiting jupiter” centers around wavering bass leads, while playing on a blend of spacious synths and timbered percussion patterns.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

asher levitas is perhaps best known as part of old apparatus, the acclaimed and enigmatic london experimental outfit. over the last few years he has featured on releases for labels including deep medi, houndstooth and left blank as ‘saa’ with the singer linn carin dirdal.
‘lit harness’, his first solo album, started forming as a project in 2015 alongside the artist and writer michael crowe who worked on the live a/v show while asher created the music with vocalist marina elderton (from the ethereal psych band kull) who features on the tracks.

karen gwyer and beatrice dillon join forces for a limited 12- release on alien jams. both artists find themselves deeply ingrained in london s vibrant electronics scene, however these two musicians approach their sound from two distinctly different angles. dillon s -curl- combines synthesised percussive effects with dubby analogue tones - maintaining the avant garde sensibilities of her blues dances 12- on where to now? - while the synths of gwyer s -common soundproofing myths- wail like sirens before falling into intoxicating acid territory. please note that this is a vinyl release only.

ian pooley revisits his beloved 1998 lp meridian with 4 brand new remixes accompanying the much-demanded arrival of the original lp in digital formats for the first time. belfast house stars bicep apply their remix magic for the a1 cut, streamlining the pooley classic cold wait into a chunky uk house thumper which has already proven a winner in their sets, while white label boss oskar offermann delivers a subtle, grooving uk garage-inspired take on hit n run. the b side finds two alternate takes on whats your number by pooledmusic family member mathias show-b schober, whose remixes manifest themselves in a starry-eyed version that elevates the originals melancholic side, plus a stripped back beats n fx tool.

basil & rogers is a sleazy, california disco duo made up of heru (dj) johnny basil and body rogers. basil, a multi-instrumentalist, long-time record collector, and energy healer is a man that s been making music for a long time under many different guises and in many different styles. heru avenger (acid/psych rock), non stop (electronic/free jazz), baast (kraut rock/jazz funk), and kandi jones (slut rock) are just a few of his projects, past and present. most of this music has been around for the entirety of the 90 s and 2000 s without being heard because despite basil s outspoken appearance (described by many as looking like iggy pop s twin brother and would never be caught wearing a t-shirt no matter the location) he s very quiet about his musical output. body rogers is also part of the non stop group and is a master of electronics and engineering. on the basil & rogers project the two have made a disco 12- that is influenced by classic-era dance music while still being completely unique and far from conforming. it s crazy, it s sexy, and it s sleazy. tune in .

apoena get his tracks played by names such as delano smith, luke hess, agoria, baby ford, jus ed (etc...) since his first record out. known to bring groove into deepness, the brazilian producer may be showing his stronger record so far with “intense ep”. the a side provides prime driving stuff while b side take the mood to a more profound level.

for the opening ep from too many squares, frank butters manages to gene-splice together the raw dna from all of the ugly-beautiful sounds present in the birth of modern dance music. -conditioning for solitude- is the hum of dark tubes, the slice and hiss of sharp synthesised percussion and the scream of blissful dementia. the mutant that existed for a brief and joyous frozen moment while disco was still birthing house. -body burn” is the tropics with a black sun and africanism with a stopwatch instead of a heart. recalling experimentalist forays by the likes of liaisons dangereuses, patrick cowley and karen finley, the 2 originals on offer manage to recall the raw passion of an era without feeling contrived or derivative. the ep is rounded off by sheila fleurraters remix of * 3 minute warning* which continues the pioneer-ist motif, albeit allying itself with a much more early industrial aesthetic.

you can always trust ludovic llorca. once a year he locks himself in his studio and works the magic which results in a local talk release. his previous releases on local talk, the same thing (classic proto housemeets-baggy us garage vibe) the rainbow song (it sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting) are lt classics and now, ludo returns with a third release, i just can t ep. while some producers struggle with new ideas, trying to re-invent the genre, ludo sticks to what he knows best. strings and chords combined with a thick and squelchy bass is the foundation of the title track while on the flip, dirty stories, is as hypnotic as it is jackin, in fact, both tracks are so irresistible you d start wondering if ludo stole them from a snake charmer.

ryc continues a global showcase of techno cities. reunited for a second time, the finest talents of berlin and paris put their heavyweight tracks on vinyl. two parisians equally infamous in the techno scene, anetha and françois x, bring unique vigor and subtle mystery to this split ep while the accurate brutality of i/y and furious drums of abayomi represent berlins offerings.

the next release on our label comes from our dear friend franco cinelli from argentina. franco is one of the main artists and pioneers of electronic music in his country and also has been working as a dj outside of argentina for many years now. besides the fact that he is a very talented and super tight dj, franco also has been releasing some impressive music over the past years. we have been following his productions for quite a while and therefor we are super happy to finally welcome him on board of our label with this truly great release

for the second bad barbie records vinyl release of 2016 we are more than exited to bring you the magnificent work from the bla bla music owner daniel sanchez with his impromptu ep. here we have four amazing pieces where each one tells a different history. the first one pearled into droplets saw the light after a great live jam and the result is combination of several layers of base elements with subtle minimalistic articulations. these, in combination of the bass and synths lines do create a truly amazing micro house piece. the second one vague, is an atmospheric dub were a single synth chord raises in slowly, followed by a very subtle kick and bass line to set a bit of rhythm to the whole thing, creating a superb dreamy vibe while the chords do their thing with delicate reverbs and delays in the backend. a great musical piece indeed. for the third track we have yi, again another amazing micro house jewel born from a live jam, but this one is even more energetic than the first one and it also includes, besides a rocking bass line, analog synth chords that lifts up the mood during specific moments, which also do their part articulating themselves perfectly with some occasional twisted vocals that helps create an amazing party vibe from beginning to end. and if this wasn t enough we also have bedroom stories vocal tool that daniel included with his delivery, which can help spice up a dj set with ease.

london-based mike misiu has had a handful of stellar yet secret releases under his belt, and now this squirrel is finally getting his nut with his rnt debut! the a side launches into a churning and chugging rendition of a donald byrd 70s jazz soul classic, followed by a cheekily infectious treatment of well-loved modern themes, while the flip kicks into high gear with two uptempo soulful stompers.

pineland is the duo made of budapest s giash with montreal s pheek, both craftsmen of immersive, organic, groovy techno. while they ve never met, they offer an extremely efficient workflow that lets them pursue their love for making beautiful and colorfull rhythmics. while their first dub project was release on only material matters (uk), they ve been overwhelmed with positive feedback that made them burst into more creative juices, coming up with a very personal ep, named grounded

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if you’re london based wild palms. “we did that in reverse,” explains the band’s sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. “the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages...” five years in fact.

our fresh outing for kid caprice ep sees another new face join the dirt crew/ spiel family. our latest artist discovery is bal 5000 out of budapest, hungary. coming from a diverse genre background, his sound ranges from disco to techno, tastefully touched with indie and balearic. the title track, for kid caprice heralds a soulful bass line, easy house stabs, light hearted keys, gently swung percussion and sparkling disco licks, this ones a soundtrack for traversing the cosmos or blissfully swaying on a dance floor. dub version steps the energy up a notch. with its growling lead and steady lathered groove this one is wide and warm. on the b-side, farewell my lovely is melancholic yet uplifting, eerie synths sing over positive key hits and its lithe melodic lines playfully interact with the rolling bass giving this one a live synth-pop feel. wake up! its monday! is bouncing and joyous with a chunky bass at its core. a queasy lead wraps around the central ideas while rising arpeggios elevate the mood. finally, as digital only track, cop is a pumping italo influenced house jam brightened with classic disco elements. boasting a self assured bass and gritty rumbling analogue synths, this one is right at home under the lights.

according to white material pair galcher lustwerk and alvin aronson, their first collaborative album under the studio ost alias contains a mix of breezy electro, aquatic dub, high speed jit, and shimmering atmospherics. while clearly tongue-in-cheek, it s a fairly accurate description. certainly, there s a fluidity, moodiness and palpable sense of atmosphere at the heart of scenes, which casually drifts between hard-edged club workouts, hazy post-club fare and dreamy, horizontal experiments. it was apparently recorded over a three-year period, during jam sessions at various new york studios. its the spontaneous aspect of its creation that has the biggest effect, and makes the whole thing feel like fleeting snapshots of moments in time.

novoline makes music with equipment that was manufactured in 1988 and 1989, controlled via midi by two atari sts. as a sequencer he is using an algorithmic composition program that is 25 years old. with this program he creates sequences that he modulates live by shifting numbers and settings while recording. the process is improvised and contains a good portion of randomly generated melodies and drums, carefully selected and combined by novoline. the result sounds a little like something between a dark 80’s sci-fi soundtrack and an endless marching new beat extended version.

this track has been in my computer since a little while when dj sotofett joined me here in amsterdam, to play an epic back to back at the school (amazing new club here). when i am doing a track, it could go to a lot of different directions as im jamming them for hours in my pipe studio. i sometimes could get lost. so i asked sotofett to join me in the studio to help to finish it. then we ended with those 2 versions of cham, which are, as often when i work with the sextags man, the result of live takes almost unedited. we also add some percussions from shadi khries and we recorded two versions of the same track within hours. one being bass driven with a lot of psychedelic noises and the other one more space-techno. our adventures continues, here is another slice of spaced out music.hope you ll enjoy.
